Regatta of the 90th anniversary of JKM Gryf
Twenty-two yachts have entered the regatta through the application form. However, as it happens with long regatta, not everyone took off. Probably because as there are so many race in the season, sometimes you have to give up parts. Why of those? Because they are not so popular in media, because they are not classified in different cups, because ... this and that.
Trasa była powtórzeniem trasy regat sprzed 10 już lat (wtedy to była część dla jachtów dużych), czyli tradycja już długa a i pomysł “gryfowy”. Patrząc od strony załóg, były to pierwsze od dawna regaty ze spokojną pogodą, wręcz momentami za spokojną.
But let's start from the beginning. The commission was set up quite strangely, because it was very close to the breakwater with the Gdynia Aquarium. The start was advantageous with pin, but it was difficult to make the most of it. Weak wind and tacking across the Bay to Hel. It was only after Hel that the spinnaker could be hoist, but on a fairly strong downwind. Such conditions lasted for a long time, only after many hours the wind eased and it fills up slightly. The sailing was still very calm. By the evening of the next day, all the yachts were already behind the turning mark, Oland-Sodra-Grund near Olandia. It seemed that the wind weakened for the top and the peloton reduced the difference to faster yachts. What were the crew waiting at the Polish shore? It depends on what time. Either silence, or temporarily stronger wind. Anyway, it was upwind. The second silence met some of the yachts at Rozewie (this is the middle group) and then again, several yachts traveled together. The slow navigation to Hel was probably tiring everyone, because the biggest and medium ones (in the sense of speed). At that time, two yachts withdrew from the regatta. Then the Bay stopped before the line Hadar, then in the center of y/s Słoni and y/s Oceanna, and next to Hel, the y/s Czarodziejka and s/y Four Winds. The yachts at the end of the rate finally got a strong, western wind and made up a lot of time on its wings
Regatta required a lot of effort, different weather conditions allowed to check in different situations, certainly giving a lot of satisfaction.
